In the Country of the Blind

My little boys and I had a wonderful Spring Break! They spent almost the entire time in the wetlands behind our house building a fort, inspired of course by "The Dangerous Book for Boys". They even put a floor in it made of leftover stone pavers from a neighbor's patio project, tied sticks together to build walls and a roof and then they.... THATCHED THE ROOF with bundled grass! How cool is that?!! They also built a matching bridge out of scrap wood and stones over the small creek. And this tale would be soooo much better with pictures, but I didn't take any while they were constructing and a nasty storm moved in this week and blew away or submerged much of it. They are troopers though and want to rebuild when it gets sunny again! The three of us also played gourmet chef and cooked these Orange Berry Muffins from Eat Me, Delicious! Yummy!! She has these Earl Grey White Chocolate Muffins I'm dying to try next.
I always get migraines here in the Spring from the rapidly cycling pressure systems. But for the past six days, I have had a particularly bad one. Hubby bought me my favorite drink to consume when I am ill, and something where I could just look at pretty pictures and didn't need to strain my eyes to read at all. How sweet is that?!! I have the best husband!!
I love Kombucha when I am feeling poorly, but it is definitely an acquired taste! This is my new favorite flavor - "Guava Goddess". And it's pink! The new Somerset Life is just gorgeous! There are so many people featured in there that I know and congrats to you all!

I'll leave you with this beautiful mural from Neuschwanstein Castle of a woman reading the tale of Tristan and Isolde.

I know how you feel. I too get severe migraines. I haven't had vision loss but I do get the intense pain that nothing will ease and the extreme light sensitivity. I hope that you will be able to get to the bottom of it. Your hubby is definitely a keeper!

You poor poor thing, that sounds horrific and scary. I have only ever had one migrane and while intense nothing like what you experience. Bless your husband for taking good care of you. I am sure you will be in Somerset Life in the future, your creations are wonderful. Take Care of Yourself. Rachaelxo
p.s. I am not superwoman, I am normally incredibly stressed and you should see the state of my house!!!!

I'm so sorry about your migraines! I do know what it is to have vision problems as most of my vision is gone in my right eye. I hope that you get some relief from those migraines. I have been dealing with major allergies here and I can't wait until all the trees stop blooming. Take care of yourself!

Sending healing energy your way, take good care! And Hey, I thought I had the best husband teehee, yours sounds like a definite keeper. So sorry you've have such a rough time. I am not a pill person, but a couple of years ago migraines got so bad I saw a neurologist and came home with a magic tablet that melts on you tongue = Maxalt I think it's called. I hardly need them anymore, but do not travel without one or two just in case. Be gentle with yourself and know that good thoughts are speeding their way to you. ooxoo

Oh honey, I know how bad it is
and I said a prayer for you & your vision

There are some meds to help eliminate migraines if you take
them (a shot) as soon as you know one is coming.

I've not heard of your drink, but I am going to look for it..and I can't WAIT to get the lastest issue of Sommerset!!

Praying you feel GOOD real soon ..and sending love your way.

This is so touching to my heart. I've asked my DH, to describe what is going on when his eyes are 'acting up' as we put it. With Macular Degeneration, it is difficult for him. Today he was describing how he feels when the express sign over the check out stand in the grocery store where he likes to have his Starbucks, is floating forward and back and disappearing all together and helps me to understand how tiring and nauseous that makes him feel. Since I'm fighting the dry eye thing where if I do the computer or bead for too long, I feel for him and for you. This is always a frightening thing when you can't see and as you've said we take it so for granted. Not reading is the worst! I think.

Hi Heather,
I am so glad you are on the up side of your ordeal! Those migraines can really set one on the sidelines, six days, ouch! Your boys sound like they had a purely magical spring break, how fun to build a fort! I just got the new Somerset Life issue too and spent this very afternoon in my writing cottage going from cover to cover, sigh! Such inspiration! I believe you too will have your turn within the pages of jewelry history, persevere!

Sounds like you and the boys had a great time on Spring Break.

Oh sweetie, I am so sorry about your head. I am sister migraine sufferer and know what you mean about barometric pressure swings. I love Spring but hate the migraines that go with it! Take care! :-) Rosie

Hope you're feeling better Heather. It can make all the difference when hubby dishes some TLC, can't it? I just tagged you, so come for a visit :~)

I hope your feeling much better Heather. I've never experienced them but know they are horrible *hugs*

A shame about your boys tree house. That would have been great to have seen photos of it. Being boys I'm sure they will make it again.

And that image you have at the end of your post is lovely.

Oh boy....I can totally relate. I used to have horrible migraines prior to my pregnancies. The doctor said that they would either get better or much worse by being pregnant. Luckily they got better. My mom still gets them though. She has a prescription for them...Have you tried that at all? Take it easy!!! Oh....and your boys sound like they had the time of their lives. How I wish we had a big open area for mine to do the same!!!
