Who Doesn't Love a Coupon?

Coupon Questions: How do I redeem a coupon?
If you are purchasing in person, just present the coupon at the time of purchase.
If you are purchasing online, look at the bottom where it says "coupon code". This is the code for that particular special valid until the coupon expiration date. If you are ordering through the Jeweled Elegance Etsy Store, just include the coupon code in the "message to seller" when checking out and I will issue a refund to your account. If you prefer, you can contact me through the Etsy convo system before you purchase and I can put your item(s) as reserved/held for you with your coupon price discount already figured in.
If you are ordering through the Jeweled Elegance Boutique you can redeem a coupon in one of two ways. One: email or convo me with what you would like to buy and which coupon code you want to use, then I will email you an adjusted invoice to pay off of. Two: purchase what you would like and then email or convo me your coupon code, then I will issue a refund to your account. Easy as that! If you have any questions please feel free to email me at enquiry@jeweledonline.com
Coupon Questions: Do they expire?
Yes, they do. Please refer to the coupon expiration date at the bottom of each coupon.
Coupon Questions: Can I combine coupons?
No, sorry. Coupons cannot be combined. You can use a coupon on each seperate order though, so if you had three coupons the way you could use them all would be to place three seperate orders.
Cheers!!

Can you Define Your Style in One Picture?
This week I had the pleasure of having my vintage rose button beads selected as an Etsy Item of the Day! Very exciting!
And .. I was tagged by Gracie with the "Style Challenge" to pick one image that describes my style. This was really tough! Because I don't have just one style. If I had to pick though .... how about this Jules Verne type bedroom at the Atlantic Hotel in Dubai. Sleek and modern, but very biological:
The contemporary fusion design coming out of places like Morocco, Hawaii and Thailand looks like "my style" too :) This Moorish fantasy house is in Florida, but you get the idea.

What's your style? Would you like to take the "Style Challenge"? Play along in blogland by posting a pic (or two) that defines *your* special style!

FAM Scavenger Hunt!
I joined my first Etsy Street Team! I am now a proud new member of FAM, Fabulous Artistic Moms and they are just a super bunch!
Fellow FAM Winklepots was so kind as to ask me to participate in the FAM Treasury Scavenger Hunt. I really had no idea what that was, but it sounded like complete fun. And now that I've seen how it works .... it is GREAT FUN! Click on this link to go the treasury. The instructions for how to play are in the first comment from Winklepots below the treasury pictures.
Remember, Treasuries expire after a limited time, so get over there to play before 3:37 pm Sun. Nov. 30. Happy Scavenging!!
And if you really love the piece Winklepots picked from my shop (that's me -- the Happiness Bird Necklace second row from the bottom) I have three other hand-illustrated bird tile designs available at the web boutique on this page. Check them out!

Polyvore -- An Artist's Nightmare or Advertising Dream?
What a whirlwind of activity the first week of school has been! There was paperwork, and orientations, and paperwork, and routines to implement, and forms to fill out (more paperwork!), and last minute supplies to get .... and MORE paperwork. I think I was busier than the kids, and they were the ones actually going to school! But all is well and everyone is settling nicely into their school year routines.
I didn't have much time to create with all the chaos, but I did google myself and my company one night. I think everyone googles themselves, but I haven't in a really long time. Imagine my surprise when I found multiple items from my www.jeweledonline.com shop being used in collage montages at a site called Polyvore.

So I googled that ... and what a can of worms that seems to be among designers! I can certainly see why it raises copyright issues, esp. for digital artists and graphic designers. I've never had my images used without permission before, but, after some thought on the issue, I've decided that I am OK with my images being used on Polyvore. It's just the low-resolution images being used (not my original designs being copied), with full credit given and links back to the originating page on the boutique site. And ..... it's page after gorgeous page (27 FULL pages on google!!) of my jewelry being shown in various outfits and mood pieces ... with LOTS of people viewing them and voting on them and ooohing and ahhing over them. You can't beat that kind of free advertising! Just look at some of these wonderful collages!

The Vintage Dictionary earrings seemed to be highly used images. There were 41 sets for the black "Wisdom" ones alone, some posted just a few hours ago! "Faith" had 13.
Now, if the trend begins where people are selling these polyvore collages, as journal covers, notecards etc., or they claim ownership over the borrowed photos, then that is going to be whole different story from a designer's copyright viewpoint and I'll have to change my stance, but for now ..... if anyone out there wants to create a cool Polyvore collage including a lovely pic of any of my products, send me the link and I will post it on my blog :) It has to be cool though! :)

What Do Marie Antoinette's Pink Dress and My New Business Cards Have in Common?
Well ... they are both making an appearance in the new round robin I joined, Queens & Harpies: Altered Paper Dresses with Panache! Every two months we will be creating an embellished paper dress for a queen or harpy from history and then mailing them onto the next person in the round robin. At the end of the year, you get back your portfolio filled with beautiful dresses by various talented artists! If this sounds like something you would like to do, we are looking for two more participants - just let me know!! (You can check out our blog for the round robin here.)
I couldn't find a store made portfolio I liked, so I created a pocket page journal from scratch out of beautiful papers and soft yarns.
And here's the inside! Marie's Antoinette's pink dress is usually snug in it's pocket on the right, but I pulled it out for this shot.
On the left is my handmade title placard for the round robin and ... my awesome new business card! This is the first professionally designed card I've ever had and I LOVE it! I wanted something really upscale, almost textural and brocade-like with my black/pink/green colors, a hint of the art nouveau style of many of my products, and lots of elegant formal black swirls. Angie at Rio Oso Designs designed my new cards and was just a pleasure to work with!

Here is the Marie Antoinette dress in more detail.

I am also having an ♥ Etsy Valentine's Special ♥ : For a sweet Valentine's treat, all etsy orders $20 and over (not including shipping) include a bonus free handmade goody! (Note: this is valid on Etsy purchases only, not my regular website boutique and expires Feb. 14.)
For more Valentine's Day celebrating, check back here for my upcoming Valentine's Day Giveaway!!

My First Treasury!
I logged into my etsy account on Saturday to discover the most wonderful surprise - a lovely fellow etsian, mosaicart, had featured a pair of my earrings in her beautiful Treasury! This is the first Treasury I have ever been featured in and I was just thrilled! I took a snapshot - Can you see me?
I'm the one at the bottom left :) I haven't been able to snag a Treasury yet myself. Not that I haven't spent a lot of time waiting, sitting and watching that countdown! Hopefully, with a little luck, someday soon :)
For anybody who wants to know how to get a full screen snapshot of a Treasury, this is how to do it (these instructions are for a PC):
1) Press F11 to get the image the same size as the screen
2) Press PrntScrn (Printscreen)
3) Go to your photo or image editing software and click paste.
4) You're done!
I also received the "You Make My Day Award" from Monica! Monica has a lovely blog and is a talented artist with a great eye for style. Thank you Monica! I pass this award onto these bloggers whose posts never fail to make me smile: Faerie*Dust*Dreams, Fluffy Flowers, Kandeland, and my new bloggy friend DecadentDiamond.

Happy, Lovely Things! And One Sad Thing.
Time to do the Happy Dance!!! Looks like I'm featured in not one, but two marvelous gift guides this Holiday Season! The Modish Holiday Gift Guide and the Creature Comfort Holiday Gift Guide!
The Modish Guide is featuring my new line of Vintage Dictionary Earrings.
The Creature Comforts Guide will be featuring these combs and these necklaces.
To celebrate such wonderful holiday press I would love to offer everyone a discount. Unfortunately my website shopping cart can't do discount codes, so instead .... every order $24 or higher is getting a free holiday gift! Hammered copper and turquoise earrings! (Sorry about the fuzzy picture. I need to retake this with my undamaged camera).
If you've read the premier issue of Victoria Magazine's relaunch, you may remember the glamorous photo shoot of Tasha Tudor's historical gowns. You can view all the gowns being auctioned at this site. You can also purchase a full color auction catalogue. I was a huge fan of the old Victoria and this new version, while nice, just doesn't have the same magical grace or sense of style ... at least for me. This auction gown, however, is lovely! Look at that great seafoam color! You can almost see the cameo at the neckline and the upswept hair pinned with a tortoiseshell comb.

Green Changeant Silk Dress, 1840s - Lot 77 (from the Tasha Tudor auction site)
And the sad thing. My husband and I have "date nights" (where we dress up and dine out without the kids) and I was so hoping to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age on our last date, but the movie showtimes didn't match up with the childcare opportunity available to us. So, alas .... looks like I will be watching it on DVD in the spring of 2008 in our family room. Not quite as romantic as I'd envisioned. :)
Oh! And I DID go to that graveyard. Not at midnight though :) My oldest son and I went for a walk to check out this bit of our town's history. Very still and creepy. And the creepiest part? One of the graves had ... dare I say it? ... had a stake on top of it wrapped in a silver wire! Now, I don't know if that wire was real silver or not, but one look at that and we were out of there. Waaay too spooky!

Yarn Addiction: Part II

As a tea and coffee connoisseur, I was really happy to find this crochet pattern for Java Jackets. Now I can keep my beverages warm and my fingers unharmed in artistic style! Here are two lovely colorful ones embellished with faux feather novelty yarn that I am gifting to two happy recipients this week.
In other news, I am so happy that my new vintage inspired bird pendants have been chosen to be reviewed by two wonderful, talented women in their stylish blogs: Laurie at Blooming Lily and SweetJen at Pretty/Modest. Thank you both!!
